VANDINE, Frederick W., Sr.
Kalamazoo, MI Frederick Walter Vandine, Sr., age 80, passed away Monday evening, October 21, 2013 in Kalamazoo. He was born on August 23, 1933 in Steubenville, OH, a son of James and Bertha Shue Vandine. Fred served in the US Army from 1954 to 1956. He worked as a tool maker for General Motors for over 36 years before retiring and enjoyed hunting, fishing and wood working. Fred was a member of Fourth Reformed Church and was currently attending Heritage Christian Reformed Church. Fred was preceded in death by: his parents; two brothers, Ross and Eugene; and two sisters, Floretta and Audrey. On June 4, 2005, Fred married the former Robin Raabe, who survives. Also surviving are: two sons, Frederick W. Melanie Vandine, Jr. of Hudsonville, MI and David Darlene Vandine of Melbourne, FL; twelve grandchildren, Jason, Jami, Justin, David, Felecia, Angel, Alisa, Katrina, Samantha, Chad, Tabitha and Raymond; two great-grandchildren, Lauren and Daniel; Robin's children Scott Hankinson and Bryan Haley Hankinson; Robin's grandchildren, Joe, Tyler, Rachel and Kellie; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held Thursday from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th Street. Graveside services with military honors will be held at 10:00 Friday morning in Ft. Custer National Cemetery. Those wishing to attend should be in the cemetery's cortege area by 9:45. A memorial service will be held Friday at 12:00 Noon at Heritage Christian Reformed Church, 2857 S. 11th Street, with Rev. Simon Tuin, officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Heritage Christian Reformed Church.
