of Portage Everett passed away Saturday, August 6, 2011 at Riverview Manor in Three Rivers, MI. He was born March 31, 1923 in Shelby, MI to Grace Snider and Alonzo Floyd. Everett spent most of his life living in Portage. He was a 1941 graduate of Portage Agricultural High School and went on to attend WMU. During WWII Everett served in the 5th Army Air Forces as a radio operator in the Philippines. He was a member of the American Legion. Everett worked as a salesman at the Kalamazoo Sears and Roebuck Co. for 38 years. His interest was golf and Amateur Ham Radio. Virginia passed away Monday, July 25, 2011 at Riverview Manor in Three Rivers, MI. She was born June 28, 1924 in South Bend, IN to Adelia Hagedorn and Elmer Plummer. Virginia was raised in Niles and attended WMU. Graduating with both a BA and MA in Education, she spent a 32-year career teaching Home Economics in Plainwell, Kalamazoo, and Portage Public Schools. Her special interests included gardening, sewing, and cooking. Virginia was a member of the Portage Garden Club and the Kalamazoo Assoc. of Retired Sch. Personnel. Everett and Virginia were introduced to each other through his sister, Jeanette. They were married in Niles on June 21, 1947. Together for 64 years, Everett and Virginia enjoyed square dancing, gardening, camping, snowmobiling, traveling, and socializing with friends from church. They were active members of the Rollaways Square Dance Club and the Portage United Methodist Church. Surviving are their daughters, Linda Chuck Miller of Bishop, Texas; Cheryl Don Butler of Portage, and son Cliff Diane Floyd of Wayland; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Also, Virginia's brother, Jack Jackie Plummer of Niles, MI, and several nieces and nephews. Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, September 30, 2011 at Pathfinder Church formerly Portage First United Methodist Church, 8740 S. Westnedge Ave., Portage, MI. Family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be directed to the Alzheimer's Association, SouthernCare Hospice, or Pathfinder Church formerly Portage United Methodist Church.
