SHAFFER, Mrs. Emma Jean
Kalamazoo, MI Passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Sunday evening July 29, 2012. Although her given name was Emma, all that knew her would call her Jean. Jean was born March 31, 1923 in Plainwell, Michigan a daughter of John and Nenah Huntley Doster. She had been a lifelong Kalamazoo area resident and was employed as a registered nurse for Dr. Dahlstrom's office for over 25 years. Jean graduated from The Bronson School of Nursing in 1944; and served as President of the Kalamazoo Chapter of the Medical Assistants Society KCMAS from 1964 - 1966. She was preceded in death by her parents; and 6 siblings, Ellen Foster, Ruth Winterhalter, Lillie Nelson, and Dale, Paul, and Carl Doster. Emma is survived by a daughter, Geraldine "Geri" Sage Duane of Kalamazoo; a granddaughter, Martha "Marti" John Veld of Kalamazoo; a great grandchild, Aija Rozentals of Kalamazoo; a special niece, Carol John Holms of Portage; a special nephew, James Winterhalter of Harbor Beach, MI; and many other nieces, nephews, and cousins. Graveside services in West Cooper Cemetery will be announced at a later date. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be directed to West Michigan Cancer Center.
