Ellen Gertrude (Hoolsema) Heeres

Ellen G. Heeres, age 91 of Kalamazoo, went to be with her Lord on March 3, 2019. She was born February 7, 1928, in Rudyard, Michigan, to John and Lena (Mast) Hoolsema. On July 16, 1948, Ellen married John Heeres. Ellen and John were longtime members of the Westwood Christian Reformed Church. She volunteered with the Five Day Club, Bible School and Friendship group at the church. Ellen was devoted to her family and would travel any distance for a visit, to attend a grandchild's events or to share in a new memory together. Her family includes her children: Elaine Breur, Harvey Heeres, Raymond (Brenda) Heeres, Stanley (Sandra) Heeres, Nancy (Danny) Sluss, Laura Cousineau, Janice (Jim) Filip, and Steve (Cheryl) Heeres; her 22 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren; her sister Angie Hoolsema and her brother Gerald Hoolsema; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband John in 1990 and six brothers and sisters. Visitation will be held from 5 PM to 7:30 PM on Wednesday, March 6, 2019, at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, 3926 S. 9th Street, Kalamazoo. Services will be held at 10 AM on Thursday, March 7th at the Funeral Home, with Pastor Mike Koetje officiating. Graveside services will follow in Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park North. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be directed to the Kalamazoo Christian School Association or Hospice of Southwest Michigan.
