Formerly of Vicksburg Ellen passed away Saturday evening, September 24, 2011 at Heather Hills Care Center in Grand Rapids. She was born September 14, 1923 in Hocking County, Ohio, the daughter of Samuel and Irene Purdum Jones. On September 8, 1942, Ellen was united in marriage to Vernon E. Bailey. She was a member of Vicksburg United Methodist Church where she was active in many church activities. Ellen enjoyed gardening and sewing. Surviving are three children, David Bailey, Larry Laurie Bailey of Florida and Steven Carol Bailey of Alto, MI; five grandchildren, Wendy Anway of Springfield, OH, Amanda Bailey Yunker of Sturgis, Lorie Bill Money of Richland, Adam Bailey of Albuquerque, NM and Dana Bailey of Grand Rapids; 6 great-grandchildren; brother, Duane Jones of Rochester, MN; sisters Ora Shockey of Greenfield, OH; Edna Pleasant of Kenton, OH; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her husband, Vernon Bailey; parents; 3 sisters, Glada Delph, Vivian Miller and Kathleen Clark; 4 brothers, Everett, Roger, Phillip and Daniel Jones. Friends may visit with the family from 10:00-11:00 AM on Saturday, October 1, 2011 at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th Street, with funeral services at 11:00 AM with Rev. Bufford Coe officiating. Private burial will be in Portage South Cemetery at a later date. Memorial contributions may be directed to Alzheimer's Association.
