Of Kalamazoo, MI Elaine passed away Sunday morning, May 10, 2009 at Borgess Medical Center. She was born January 11, 1926 in Kalamazoo, the one of two children to Henry and Anna Witkop Klok. On February 15, 1950, she was united in marriage to John G. Oom. Elaine was a longtime active member of Third Reformed Church involved in many aspects of the church, including choir member for over 50 years, Sunday school teacher, bible school teacher, organist, secretary, and leader of the Women's Guild. Surviving are her husband of 59 years, John; their 2 children, Robert Oom of Kalamazoo and Kathleen Hand of Cedar Key, FL; 3 grandchildren, Maria Jeff Yacks of Belmont, Edward Oom of Wood Dale, IL, and Marissa Hand of Cedar Key, FL; 2 great-grandchildren, Brayden and Colby Yacks; brother-in-law, Arthur Oom of Grand Rapids; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death are her parents; her brother, Lawrence Klok; daughter-in-law, Barbara Oom; and son-in-law, Lyle Hand. Funeral services for Elaine will be at 1:30 PM on Thursday at Third Reformed Church, 2345 N. 10th Street, with Rev. Darwin VanderWal officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 6-8 PM on Wednesday tomorrow at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th Street. Interment will be in Mt. Ever-Rest North Park.
