Portage, MI Died Tuesday morning December 14, 2010. Doug was born April 10, 1935 in Kalamazoo, Michigan a son of Cornelius and Josephine Balch Newhouse. During the Korean War he served with the U.S. Marines. Doug had been a lifelong Kalamazoo area resident and was employed with the Allied Paper Company for 25 years before retiring. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, David Newhouse; and the mother of his children, Elizabeth "Jean" LaViolette. He is survived by 3 children, Cathryn Austin of Las Vegas, NV, Sherry Wagner of Portage, and Michelle Freda of Florida; extended family, a son, Jack DeCamp of Vicksburg; Sister-in-law Penny Newhouse of Portage; a step daughter, Staci Roberts of Kalamazoo; 11 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Phyllis Howard DesVoignes and Mary Sanders all of Portage; and several nieces, nephew, and cousins. Services will be held 10:30 Monday from the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre Ave. Visitation will be 5-8pm Sunday. Interment will be in Fort Custer National Cemetery with full military honors.
