Dorothy Lois (Kline) Hettinger

Dorothy L. Hettinger was called home to be with her Lord and Savior on January 11, 2022. Dorothy was born on February 8, 1934, to Henry and Trena (Pinkster) Kline. Dorothy graduated from Kalamazoo Christian High School in January 1951, and following graduation, she was employed by American National Bank & Trust for 11 years.

On June 17, 1952, Dorothy married her husband, James Hettinger, who survives. They were married for 69 years and enjoyed spending their summers at Gun Lake. A member of Hope Reformed Church in Kalamazoo, Dorothy was a woman of strong faith and loved her family and spending time with them. Dorothy was a loving and caring mother to Terri (Steven) De Vries of Kalamazoo, and James Hettinger, Jr., of Richland. She had two very special grandchildren, Erika (Bryan) Kiel and Matthew (Kalista) De Vries, and great-grandchildren, Kayla, Emily, and Jackson Kiel, and Giuliana De Vries, and Baby De Vries due in May. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Barbara (Donald) Tunis, of Gobles.

After raising two children, Dorothy went back to work for the Kalamazoo Public Schools, and after 25 years of service, retired in 1995. A private, immediate family interment will be held at Grand Prairie Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Reformed Heritage Christian School General Fund.
