Of Portage Dorothy passed away Thursday morning, September 22, 2011, at Rose Arbor Hospice Residence in Kalamazoo, MI. She was born January 31, 1931 in Barrington, IL. On December 26, 1948, Dorothy was united in marriage to James E. Gools. She was employed by Illinois Bell Telephone Co. for 11 years prior to moving to Portage in 1972. Dorothy also was employed by Portage Public Schools for 7 years. She was a longtime member of Portage United Church of Christ. Preceding her in death were her parents, Herman and Wilhelmina Meyer Buesching, husband, James Gools in 1992; son, Stephen J. Gools in 2011; sisters, Ella Engelking and Frances Thompson. Surviving are her daughter-in-law, Kimberly A. Gools of Okemos; 2 grandchildren, Jennifer E. Hunter of Haslett, and Joseph M. Gools of East Lansing; sister-in-law Florence Kangas; neices Gail Len Tripoli, and Pam Mark Wilson; nephews Don Nancy Thompson, Ray Debbi Engelking, Chris Dolores Kangas, Richard Erin Kangas, Jeff Shaun Kangas, and Tim Vicky Kangas. Memorial services for Dorothy will be at 1:00p.m. on Saturday, October 8, at Portage United Church of Christ, 2731 W. Milham Avenue, with Pastor Scott Oberle officiating. Private interment will be in Memory Gardens, Arlington Heights, IL. Memorial contributions may be directed to Portage United Church of Christ or Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan.
