EBERTS, DOROTHY MAY (HEDGES)
4/10/1926 - 2/9/2016
Kalamazoo, Michigan

Dorothy May Eberts, 89, died peacefully on February 9, 2016, surrounded by her loving family. She was preceded in death by her son, Ray Eberts; five brothers, Harold, Warren, Dwight, Lowell and Kenneth; and four sisters, Helen Davis, Vena Schertzer, Mildred Burley and Marilyn Rasey. Dorothy is survived by her devoted husband of 67 years, Harry; her sons Randall (Diane) and Harry III (Jenny) and daughter-in-law, Cindelyn Eberts; seven grandchildren, Linnaea Thomas (John), Kendra, Wescott, Russell, Gwen and Claire Eberts and Hans Harland-Hue; and three great grandchildren. The eighth of ten children, Dorothy was born April 10, 1926 to William "Ray" and Blanche (Sifritt) Hedges in Green Camp, Ohio where she grew up on the family farm. After graduating from Heidelberg College, she married Harry W. Eberts and devoted herself to raising her family and helping to carry out the ministry of the churches in which Harry served as pastor. Dorothy (Dottie) was famous for her baking and took great pleasure in family dinners and gatherings. She loved to travel and was proud that she had visited every state in the U.S. and almost every continent. During the 1970's - 1990's, she and Harry enjoyed a professional relationship with the Coptic Evangelical Organization for Social Services (CEOSS) in Egypt. They were in Egypt on ten different occasions and while Harry worked in the Seminary with pastoral students, Dottie taught classes to women in the villages served by CEOSS to develop marketable skills. She treasured those experiences and enjoyed years of friendships formed there. A celebration of Dottie's life will take place on Saturday, February 20 at 2 p.m. in the Kiva at Friendship Village in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Burial will follow at a later date in the Green Camp Cemetery, Green Camp, Ohio. Arrangements by Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel.
