Donald J. "Don" Lamb, loving husband and father, went to be with his Lord and Savior on March 30, 2022. Donald, known by his friends as Don, was born on October 29, 1931 in Pittsburgh, PA. the son of Charles and Susan (Beiter) Lamb. He graduated from St. Aloysius Academy in New Lexington, OH in 1949. It was also at St. Aloysius, during his senior year, he met his future bride, Ginny. In 1954, Don graduated with a B.S. degree in Pharmacy from The Ohio State University. It was also there in June of 1955, he completed his Masters degree in Pharmaceutical Chemistry. He was called to active duty shortly thereafter. From 1955 to 1957, he served as 1st Lt. U.S. Army/MSC, at the Physiological Chemistry Laboratories, Army Chemical Center in Edgewood, MD. He worked with a unit there, doing research on treatment of exposure to war gases. On September 22, 1956, he returned to New Lexington, OH to marry Ginny and both returned to live in Maryland until Don was relieved from active duty in June, 1957. Soon after, they moved to Columbus, OH and Don returned again to The Ohio State University to complete his Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Chemistry. After receiving his Ph.D. in 1960, Don began his career at The Upjohn Company. During his first five years with the company, he served as a Pharmaceutical Research Scientist. In 1965, he was promoted to Research Head, Fluids and Sterile Products Section in Pharmacy Research. In 1970, he was promoted to Department Director of Pharmacy Research. From 1983-1990, he also served as Director of Research Program Management and Support, Director Project Support, and finally Director of Project Management IV where he was responsible for directing the management of drug and product development projects arising from discovery and medical research in cancer and infectious diseases, and for providing planning systems support for all areas of pharmaceutical development. In 1971, Don was awarded the Distinguished Alumni Award from the College of Pharmacy from The Ohio State University, in recognition of distinguished service to the pharmacy profession and to public health. In 1975, Don was awarded the William E. Upjohn Prize in recognition of Special Accomplishments to The Upjohn Company.
For three years after retirement, Don taught Project Management seminars at Kalamazoo Valley Community College.
Don was also a member of Kalamazoo First Assembly of God, where he served as a member of the Board of Trustees for 12 years.
Don enjoyed many hobbies during his lifetime including: building and painting model airplanes, flying radio-controlled model airplanes, and landscape photography.
Don was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Susan Lamb, two brothers, Charles and William Lamb, sister-in-law Anna Lamb, his sister Mary Anita Lamb, his wife Ginny, and his son Jeffrey. He is survived by his daughter, Donna and son-in-law Tony Zacker, a sister-in-law, Gerry Harris, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday April 6, 2022 at Langeland Family Funeral Homes Burial and Cremation Services, 3926 South 9th Street, Kalamazoo, MI 49009, beginning at 12pm. The funeral service will follow at 1pm and a graveside service will take place at Mt. Ever Rest Memorial Park South, 3941 South Westnedge Ave, Kalamazoo, MI 49008 following the funeral service at 2:30pm.
