Died Monday morning July 29, 2019. Dixie was born July 20, 1934 in Kalamazoo, Michigan a daughter of Charles and Mary (Riese) Root. She had been a lifelong Kalamazoo area resident. Dixie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Kenneth V. Martin on September 27, 2009; and siblings, Charles Root, Jr., Priscilla "Pat" Bodtke, Richard Root, and Mary Lou Roberts. She is survived by a son, Kenneth (Pam) Martin of Kalamazoo; 2 grandchildren, Jessica Martin of Kalamazoo; and Kenneth Ross Martin of Indiana; 4 great-grandchildren, Tyler, Zoey, R.J., and Colton; siblings, Audrey "Ann" (Doug) Douglas, Franklin Root, Glory Ammerman, Hope (Chet) Robb, Barry (Barb) Root, Stanley Root, Brandy (Delene) Root, Toni (Dave) Garrett; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be held 11 o'clock Friday, August 2nd from the Langeland Family Funeral Homes Burial & Cremation Services, 622 S. Burdick St. Kalamazoo, MI 49007. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the chapel. Graveside services will be held 1 o'clock Monday, August 5th in Ft. Custer National Cemetery.
