Passed away Saturday, December 26, 2015 at the age of 92. He was born June 11, 1923 in Detroit, MI to the late David J. and Hazel (Gleason) Johnston. David was united in marriage to Dorothy Proefrock on September 3, 1939 who survives. David served in the U.S. Army during WWII, from February of 1942 until honorably discharged in December of 1945. Among his several awards include the Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster. David is survived by his wife, Dorothy Johnston. The family will greet friends on Thursday, December 31st from 10-11:00 am at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 East Centre Ave., where a funeral service will start at 11:00 am. Interment will follow at Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park South. In lieu of flowers, memorials in David's name may be directed to the Zion Lutheran Church, Mission Fund or to the Wounded Warrior Project.
