JOHNSTON, David F.
of Kalamazoo, Michigan David died on Monday evening, May 28, 2012, in Kalamazoo, MI. He was born July 20, 1946 in Owosso, MI, a son of Dr. Richard L. and Kathryn A. Freeman Johnston and had lived in the Kalamazoo area for most of his life. David enlisted in the US Navy in 1965, served as an operating room technician in Vietnam and Bethesda, MD and was honorably discharged in 1969. David returned to Kalamazoo and resumed his studies at WMU. David worked as a surgical first assistant for Neurosurgery of Kalamazoo for 35 years before retiring. David was a member of Portage United Church of Christ and the Alano Club. On February 6, 1976, David was united in marriage with the former Barbara A. Brehm. David was preceded in death by his father. He is survived by: his wife, Barbara; mother Kathryn of Portage; brother, R. "Mike" Johnston of Kalamazoo; two sisters, Peggy Johnston of Portage and Lynda Rob Bauckham of Portage and two nieces, Jessica and Rachael. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held 10:30 Monday morning June 4, 2012, at Portage United Church of Christ, 2731 W. Milham with Rev. Howie Tobak, officiating. Inurnment with military honors will be held 1:30 Monday afternoon in Ft. Custer National Cemetery. Those wishing to attend should be in the cemetery cortege area by 1:15. In lieu of flowers, memorials should be directed to Portage United Church of Christ - Music Ministry or to the Alano Club. Arrangements made by Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S.
