of Paw Paw
Dallas, age 85, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on December 12, 2015 at Maple Lake Assisted Living in Paw Paw surrounded by his family. Dale was born September 30, 1930 in Columbus, Ohio, the son of George Dallas and Jesse Marie Townsend. Dale was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, and boxed while he was in the Marines. He then went into police work in 1960, first serving on the Nelsonville, Ohio police force before moving to MI to join the Portage Police Dept. where he attained the rank of Sergeant. He participated in the Fraternal Order of Police serving on the board of the local chapter for many years. On July 3, 1948, Dale was united in marriage to Virginia Kathryn Potts. She preceded him in death on September 15, 1999. On April 28, 2006, he was then united in marriage to Josephine I. Cronk. She preceded him in death on December 10, 2015. Also preceding him in death was his sister, Dena Kirkendall. Surviving are Dallas Dale II (Renee) Townsend of Paw Paw, Bruce W (Sarah) Townsend of Brandon FL, Christina K (Richard) Pearce of Destin FL, Timothy S Townsend of Kalamazoo, Kevin D Townsend of Grand Junction MI and Tamara M (Gordon) Shaw of Schoolcraft, MI; step-children, Donald Blair of Thailand, Linda (Mark) Gardner of Lawrence, Janet (Ron) Bell of Paw Paw and Susan (Thomas) Bontekoe of Portage; brother, Maxel E (Wootie) Townsend; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. Visitation will be from 5-8 PM on Wednesday, Dec. 16, at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre Avenue with a funeral service at 1:00 PM on Thursday, Dec. 17, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be directed to: Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan or Fraternal Order of Police, Greater Kalamazoo Lodge #98.
