Clarence Edward Seckman

June 24, 1933 — June 12, 2019

Clarence E. Seckman, 85, of Portage, passed away June 12, 2019. He was born June 24, 1933 in Clarksburg, West Virginia, to the late Careolton R. and Eva Ann (Wentz) Seckman.

Clarence was a native of "wild and wonderful" West Virginia. He attended West Virginia Unversity and earned a B.S. degree in medical technology. He was a proud member of the marching band and played the tenor saxophone. He was also a member of the Reserve Officers Training Corps (Army-ROTC). After graduating, he served a tour of duty with the U.S. Navy Medical/Hospital Corps, which included a one-year assignment with the 3rd Marine Corps Division on Okinawa as a laboratory supervisor for their field hospital unit. Returning to civilian life, Clarence spent 8 years in the clinical lab of Methodist Hospital & Medical Center in St. Joseph, MO. He began his Upjohn career in 1965 as a clinical laboratory supervisor. Clarence served on many committees, task forces, and several drug development teams, monitoring clinical trials, retiring in 1997.

Clarence enjoyed heading for the mountains where he spent time camping in his family log cabin, fishing, hunting, and boating. He also enjoyed gardening and traveling with family and friends. In particular, he loved spending winters with his wife at their beach condo in Florida.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Patricia A. (Jolliffe) Seckman in 2014; sister, Violet Beamer; and brother-in-law, Ed Ritter.

Clarence is survived by his children, Kimberly (Roger) Stamper, Cheryl (Peter Howard) Seckman, Valerie (Scott) Farman, and Beth (Richard) Rowand; grandchildren, Brian, Christine, and Jennifer; and sister, Yvonne Ritter.
