Clare Agnes Andrews, age 83, passed away peacefully at 5:30 am on Sunday, April 30, 2017. She was born in Detroit on April 17, 1934.
She was the youngest child of three boys and three girls, one of whom has survived her, her sister, Dorothy Shay, age 87.
She married Vincent Robert Andrews on June 21, 1956 and proceeded to have four children - Laura, Steven (wife Michelle), Joseph (wife Cindy) and Brian (wife Theresa). She is survived by her four children, three daughter in-laws, five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Clare graduated from Sts. Cyril and Methodius School, a partition of Detroit's first Slovak parish that opened in 1918. She met her husband, Vince, at a dance in her early twenties and worked as a secretary before her marriage and at Consumer Electric and Georgia Pacific during and after her children had grown.
The main attribute Clare possessed was that everyone loved her for her non-judgmental nature and acceptance of human flaws. In fact, all three of her daughter-in-laws loved and viewed her as a second mom, rather than a mother-in-law. Clare loved dancing with Vince, playing video poker, drinking and appreciating wine, her soap opera, The Y&R, assisting her friends in her Sheldon street apartment and most of all, talking and being with her family. She was always content being a dedicated housewife, mother and friend to all, never asking any more from life itself.
With just her presence, the world has lost an extraordinary woman who will not just be missed, but will leave an unfilled hole in many a heart.
Clare requested no funeral, memorial or burial service. The family wishes to thank all of those who reached out to her during her last remaining days. A Mass will be held on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at St. Mary's Cathedral in Gaylord, Michigan at 10 AM, followed by a luncheon from 11:30 AM to 2:30 PM at BJ's Restaurant located at 990 N. Center Avenue, Gaylord, MI. Arrangements by Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Kalamazoo.
