Chuck passed on peacefully Saturday, May 26, 2018, at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born on April 19, 1940 in Parma, MI, the son of Orlin and Dorothy (Kofflin) Harmon. Chuck was a graduate of Western Michigan University, where he earned his Master's Degree. He was a science teacher for over 50 years and retired from Portage Northern High School. Chuck was an avid outdoorsman, runner, and advocate for world peace and social justice. He had a deep appreciation of Native American culture. On August 1, 1987, Chuck was united in marriage to Donna (DeWaard) Harmon, who survives. Also surviving are four children: Amy (Jeff Lisse) Harmon, Chad (Mandy) Harmon, Andrew Harmon and Catherine Harmon; brother: Robert (Peg) Harmon; sister-in-law: Diane Harmon; aunt: Veronica (Kofflin) Phend and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents and brother: Thomas Harmon. Friends may visit with Chuck's family from 5-8 PM on Thursday, May 31, at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th Street. A service to celebrate Chuck's life will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, June 1, at Hope Reformed Church, 910 Jenks Blvd. Pastor Fritz Kruithof will officiate. Interment at Hope Cemetery, Texas Corners, will follow the church luncheon. Memorial contributions may be directed to The Peace Project ( https://www.rca.org/news/peace-project ).
