Formerly of Kalamazoo "Death is not a period - but only a comma on our way to glory. Do not say she is gone - but rather say - she has arrived." Catherine passed away Monday morning, February 3, 2014 at Good Shepherd Hospice in Auburndale, FL. She was born on September 12, 1922 in Kalamazoo, the daughter of Arthur and Jennie Kannegieter White. Catherine was employed by KVP/James River until her retirement and was a member of Overisel Reformed Church. Surviving are her two daughters, Sharon Bill LaLone Jones of Lakeland, FL and Sandra Jim VanderRoest of Spring Lake; five grandchildren, Dawn Doug Miller, Kristen John Shafer, James Karla VanderRoest, Stephen Jen VanderRoest, and Jonathan Laura VanderRoest; twelve great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; three step-children, Barb Bob Slikkers, Diane Rudy Broekhuis, Larry Marla Zuidema, all of Holland; three sisters-in-law, Lola White, Patti Stender and Alice VandenBosch; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her husbands, Arthur Iles in 1945, John LaLone in 1990 and Barney Zuidema in 2004 and two brothers, Peter and Benjamin White. A funeral service for Catherine will be held at 11:00 AM on February 11, 2014 at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th Street, with her son-in-law, Rev. James VanderRoest officiating. A luncheon will follow the service at the funeral home followed by interment in East Cooper Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 5-7 PM on Monday the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Good Shepherd Hospice.
