SMODIC, Carol A. Portage Carol passed away Wednesday, September 15, 2010 at Bronson Methodist Hospital, after a brave fight with ovarian cancer. Carol was born May 9, 1957 in Ravenna, OH, the daughter of John and Mary Sziber. She graduated from Kent State University in 1979 with a degree in accounting. Following her graduation, she worked for various major accounting firms, at which time she met her future husband, Daniel. They were married August 17, 1985 and moved to Portage in 1989. Carol and Dan recently celebrated their 25th anniversary. Carol was involved in various community activities and was very active in the lives of their three children. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and also traveling. Carol was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Church of Portage. Carol was preceded in death by her father, John Sziber. She is survived by her husband, Daniel; their children, Dan, Michelle and Mike; her mother, Mary Sziber of Kent, OH; her sisters, Rosemarie Frank Einholz of Stow, OH and Amy Dennis West of Green, OH; 3 nieces and 3 nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday at 11:00 AM in St. Catherine Church, 1150 W. Centre Ave. with Rev. Fr. James Adams, celebrant. The family will receive friends at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th St. on Saturday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM and on Sunday from 5-8 PM, where a Rosary will be prayed at 7:30 PM. Following services in Portage, Carol will be taken to the Bissler & Sons Funeral Home in Kent, OH for further services and interment in the Standing Rock Cemetery.
