Bryan Arthur Wines passed away at home on August 24, 2018. Bryan was born September 26, 1947 in Mount Clemens, Michigan, attended Dearborn High School and was a 1969 graduate of Western Michigan University. He was a longtime teacher in the Kalamazoo area. He taught high school mathematics in the Gobles, Vicksburg and Kalamazoo Public School districts. He retired in 2014 after serving as a teacher at the Kalamazoo Psychiatric Hospital. Bryan had a true passion for teaching. He especially enjoyed working with disadvantaged students. In 2002, Bryan was named the Michigan Alternative Education "Teacher of the Year". Bryan was an elite athlete, was active in city league slo-pitch softball for many years and was a member of the Sackett Brick team that won numerous tournaments and championships in the 1980's. He also coached softball and basketball at various times during his teaching career. Bryan was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Fern Wines and is survived by his sister, Kari Bricker, Westland, Mi and brother, Roger Wines, Canton, MI. A gathering to celebrate Bryan's life will held Saturday, September 22 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the Prairies Golf Club, 5303 W Main, Kalamazoo. Food and beverages will be provided.
