Bradley E. Lyons

July 29, 1956 — September 27, 2017

LYONS, BRADLEY E.

Brad passed away peacefully on Wednesday evening, September 27, 2017 at Mercy Health Hospital in Grand Rapids, MI surrounded by his loving family at the age of 61. He was best friend and beloved husband of 31 years to Clare and adoring father to Lydia.

Surviving are his mother: Esme Lyons, sister: Margot and brother: Douglas Lyons, a niece and nephews, all of Ontario, Canada. Preceding him in death was his father: Donald Lyons.

Brad was born on July 29, 1956 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, the son of Donald and Esme (Nanton) Lyons. At age 11, he moved with his family to Mississauga, Ontario. He attended the University of Guelph where he developed life long friendships at Mills Hall. He loved playing hockey, football, listening to music, gourmet cooking, working out at the gym, travel and most of all, spending time with friends and family.

In 1981, Brad began his career with Kellogg Canada and after 10 years, relocated to Battle Creek, Michigan where he was in Corporate Global Quality. He traveled the world in those early years, especially in Asia Pacific, South Africa and Latin America. Later he headed up the Kellogg North America Quality and Innovation and then was Sr. Director Global Quality Operations. Brad retired from the Kellogg Company on June 26, 2015 after 34 years of service. He enjoyed Kellogg's because of the privilege of working with the great people there. Brad felt and truly cared for them like family.

He fought a brave battle with cancer for over 2 years. He is an inspiration to us all as he dealt with the challenges with dignity, grace, and positivity. His spirit was strong throughout this journey and he was always ready to overcome the next obstacle.

The family is very grateful to the West Michigan Cancer Center medical team and the nurses in the infusion room, whom Brad considered his "angels". Also, many heartfelt thanks to the therapy team at Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital for lifting Brad's spirits each day as he worked towards a goal and hope for the future.

Honoring his wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation will be from 2-4pm and 6-8pm on Tuesday, Oct. 3, at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th St. Kalamazoo. A Mass to celebrate Brad's life will be at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, Oct. 4, at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 1150 W. Centre Avenue, Portage.
