Kalamazoo Betty passed away peacefully on May 2, 2015, surrounded by family members, at the age of 86 years old. Betty was born on October 14, 1928 in Plainwell, Michigan to Carl and Sharley Breese. She attended both Plainwell and Otsego Schools. She graduated in 1947 from Kalamazoo Central High School. In 1949, Betty and Clarence Redmond united in marriage and moved to Parchment, Michigan where they were members of St. Ambrose Catholic Church and raised their 4 children as she pursued interests in nature, camping, gardening and was a member of The Kalamazoo Genealogy Club and graduated from Parson's Business School. Later in life, Betty married Anthony Villarreal and together they attended both KVCC and WMU . They shared a love of music - Tony being a well-known Kalamazoo musician. Also, singing, philosophy, books, biking and camping filled their time together. Betty was preceded in death by her parents Carl and Sharley Cobb Breese of Kalamazoo and her sister Laura Jones and husband Merle Jones of Battle Creek. She is survived by her husband Anthony Villarreal of Kalamazoo and children Roland Nena Redmond of Kalamazoo, Mark Redmond of Augusta, Walter Jackie Redmond of Richland and Rosalynn Redmond of Henderson, Nevada; her grandchildren, David Fairlamb Natasha Kukovinets, Jessica Fairlamb Michael English of Henderson, Nevada, Adam Redmond, Laura Redmond and Angela Paska Sean Thompson, Kalamazoo and Ross and Rachael Redmond of Richland; great grandchildren, Ellie Huffaker and Jack English of Henderson, Nevada, Wyatt Thompson of Kalamazoo; step-daughters, Fran Dwight of Kalamazoo, Sandy Villarreal of Plainwell, Sue Villarreal of Florida and Jane Villarreal; and a niece, Sharlie Jones of Battle Creek. The family would like to express their gratitude for the care Betty received from Tender Care Nursing Home on Drake Road in Kalamazoo as well as Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan. Betty's children are especially grateful to Betty's husband Tony who during her 4 year long stay at Tender Care was devoted to being with her every single day. Langeland Family Funeral Homes of Kalamazoo are handling final arrangements with a private family memorial to be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Kalamazoo Gospel Mission which was Betty's favorite charity.
