Kalamazoo Went to be with his Lord Saturday afternoon, November 1, 2014. He was born October 23, 1949 in Heerhugowaard, the Netherlands the son of Jan and Niesje Smit DenHartigh. He was a graduate of Kalamazoo Christian High School and was the owner and operator of B. DenHartigh Greenhouse for 32 years. Bert was a member of Northern Heights Christian Reformed Church where he enjoyed being a cadet leader for over 25 years. He loved being outside camping, biking, and building. He also enjoyed rebuilding things like his Ford Mustangs and his pickup trucks. On August 28, 1971 he was united in marriage to his loving wife Diane, who survives. Also surviving are his children, Nicole Rob Dillenbeck, Jessica Hill, Monique Andrew Wood, Elizabeth Chester Emmons, Bert James "BJ" Amy DenHartigh, Camelia DenHartigh, Roxana DenHartigh; 16 grandchildren, Joseph, RJ, Hanna, Zeke, Olivia, Annika, Jakob, Khloe, Oskar, Deanna, Zoie, Ellie, Skyler, Aubree, Ethan, and Mallorie; brothers and sisters, Anne Rockwell, Sharon John Mulder, Jacob Gayle DenHartigh, John Beth DenHartigh, George Eleanor DenHartigh, Nina Jim Steele; sister-in-law, Sandy DenHartigh; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Paul; and a grandson, Gabriel. A memorial service will be held at 1:00pm Thursday, November 6, at Second Christian Reformed Church, 3015 Nichols Rd. Friends may meet the family Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8pm at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th Street. Private interment will be in Mt. Ever-Rest North Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.
