Passed away early Saturday morning, November 28, 2015. She was born on June 21, 1919 in Sitka, Michigan, the daughter of George and Alta (Phillips) Crawford. Beatrice moved to Fremont in 1925 and graduated from the Fremont High School. She graduated from WMU with a degree in Home Economics and later with an M.A. in Counseling and Guidance. On July 31, 1941, Beatrice married Robert E. Stout. For the next several years, she taught at the Battle Creek Lakeview Jr. High School and was a Counselor / Teacher at various schools for Lansing Public Schools. Upon retirement, she and Bob moved to Manistee. During her years in education, she was an active member of Battle Creek Home Economics Association, Alpha Beta Epsilon Sorority (Iota and Zeta Chapters), Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority (Beta, Alpha chapters), state and local education committees, and Kalamazoo Area School Personnel. Beatrice was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Kalamazoo. Surviving are her husband of 74 years, Robert Stout; son, Thomas Stout; two grandsons, Michael (Kristin) Stout and Stephen (Caroline) Stout; four great-grandchildren, David, Daniel, Remi, and Margaux Stout; and several nieces and nephews. Sisters, Alethea Utter and Edith Fredericks, preceded her in death. Honoring Beatrice's request, cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held at a later date at Friendship Village. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Friendship Village Friend's Fund or to the First United Methodist Church of Kalamazoo.
