Passed away Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at the age of 89. She was born June 16, 1926, in Kalamazoo to the late Jake and Glenna Klepper. Barbara was united in marriage to Philip Gernaat on July 23, 1971. Barbara was a lifelong resident of Kalamazoo and a longtime member of Second Christian Reformed Church. Barbara drove a school bus for 20 years for Parchment Schools. Barbara is survived by her husband, Philip Gernaat; children, Tom Zuidema, Carolyn Whitney and Janice (Jim) Tripp; step-children, Stanley (Kathy) Gernaat and Allan Gernaat; 4 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Helen Klepper; step-brother, Edward (Betty) Klepper; step-sister, Joan VanderWoude; and several nieces and nephews. Barbara was preceded in death by her son, David Zuidema; and step-son, Philip L. Gernaat. The family will greet friends on Sunday, March 6th from 2-4 and 6-8pm at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th St. A funeral service will take place on Monday, March 7th, 11:00am at Second Christian Reformed Church, 3015 Nichols Rd., Kalamazoo. Burial, following a luncheon at the church, will be at Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park South. Memorials in Barbara's name may be directed to the church.
