Barbara K. Burgess

BURGESS, Barbara K. Kalamazoo Passed away August 15, 2014, joining her parents, Bill and Joyce Murphy Emerson and infant brother, Paul, in Heaven. Barb was born in Traverse City, Michigan May 24, 1964 and was a resident of the Kalamazoo area since 1969. She graduated from Parchment High School and the Bronson Methodist Hospital School of Nursing. Barb took pride in her work as a Registered Nurse in local hospitals and clinics, and was a strong advocate for her patients. She was known for her caring and gentle nature and her witty sense of humor. Barb loved dogs, especially her own Boston Terrier, Winston and Boxers: Bobber, Fergus, Bastian, and Belle. She enjoyed weekly trivia with friends, rooting for the Detroit Tigers, playing Scrabble, travel, music, and time with friends and family. Barb is survived by sisters, Carol Kenneth Selden of Spring Arbor, and Janet Patrick Roskelley of Traverse City; and niece and nephews, Michael and Susan Roskelley, Daniel Selden. She is also survived by David Burgess, her husband of 26 years until they divorced in 2014. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held Saturday, September 20 at 2 p.m. at Haven Church, 5350 N. Sprinkle Rd. A private family interment will be held.
