Ann Lisbeth (Burrma) Papesh

July 27, 1938 — January 28, 2022

Kalamazoo

Ann Lisbeth Papesh (nee Burrma) died Friday evening, January 28, 2022, in Kalamazoo, MI. She was born in Kalamazoo, MI, daughter of the late Edward and Bernice (Burkey) Burrma and the late Alice Hanson Burrma. She had been a lifelong area resident.

As an only child she was able to travel with her father. Her fondest memories were of going to stay on Mackinaw Island which they traveled to by their friend's boat. She also as a young girl traveled to Arizona to stay with family.

She married Larry Lewis and together they had Steve. They divorced after a short marriage. She then met Phil Munger and he asked to marry her and Steve in 1960. Jodi and Jeff soon filled up the house.

Ann attended Kalamazoo Central High School and graduated from Beauty College. She made many friends doing hair and was able to raise her children while working in her own shop in the home.

When the kids were raised, she and Phil divorced. She worked at the Metropol as a hostess in the brand new Kalamazoo Center. She then took a job at UPS where she was a package handler and later was in the office doing payroll for the drivers.

She met Pete Papesh and the two of them blended their families. They married in May of 1983. Pete and Annie had a love that they had both waited a lifetime for. They fished, they visited family and went on many weekend adventures. Sadly, she lost Pete just 4 short years later. She was ingratiated into his family and had many sisters and brothers and nieces and nephews that adored her as much as she adored them. She worked at EPC in Mattawan until her retirement where she gained even more friends and acquaintances.

She decided upon retirement to move to Florida near some great friends. Her love of golf grew as she was able to play year round. She moved back to Michigan but continued to winter in Florida. She had a very special friend Mike in Florida. They became partners in a small business called "We got Balls" which sold golf balls and golf supplies.

Her friends and relatives are many and also included her kid's friends, many of which were helpful as Annie began her journey with dementia. Annie moved into Jeff's home and her children and their friends all began to care for her. She spent the last few months in a memory care home where she was regarded as "little Annie" and the caregivers there say she was such a sweet lady.

Ann is survived by her children, Steve (Debbie) Lewis, Jodi (Don) Stermer, and Jeff Munger; stepchildren, Craig Papesh, Rick Papesh, Karen Papesh, Kevin Papesh, and Rob Papesh; grandchildren, Jeffrey Munger Jr. , Ryan (Kristle) Lewis , Donnie Stermer, Joe Stermer , Andy Stermer, and Robby Stermer; four great-grandchildren; siblings, Ron (Karen) Hanson, and Tom (Randi) Hanson; Special friend Mike Schumann and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial gathering will be held later this year. Arrangements entrusted to Langeland Family Funeral Homes Burial & Cremation Services, 3926 S. 9th St, Kalamazoo MI 49009. To view Ann's personalized web page, please visit https://www.langelands.com
