MELCHING, Amber Marie Of Portage Amber passed away after a long courageously hard fought battle against a serious illness. She was born on November 4, 1984 and grew up in Schoolcraft where she graduated from Schoolcraft High School in 2003. She attended the Pharmacy Technician Program at Olympia and graduated in Dec. of 2006. Amber enjoyed travelling to new places, going to the beach, listening to music, watching the kids' sports events, shopping, summer, fireworks and anything to do with animals. She was an avid Red Wings and Lions fan. Amber loved life and her family immensely and often stated that love was all that truly mattered in life. She was a thoughtful, caring, giving person who was full of optimism and had a wonderful quirky sense of humor which she kept till the end. She is survived by her mother Lisa VandenAkker, her brothers Brad VandenAkker and Michael Melching, her sister-in-law Melinda VandenAkker, her grandmother Shirley VandenAkker, her Aunt Julie VandenAkker Arney and Uncle Dave Arney. Also surviving and most precious and special to her are her "buds" - her nephews Trent VandenAkker and Nolan VandenAkker and her cousins A.J. Arney and Matthew Arney. Per Amber's request there will be no services and any memorial contributions be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society or St. Jude Children's Hospital.
