Bogema, Alice "Dolly"
Kalamazoo Dolly was born in Kalamazoo on August 30, 1926, the daughter of the late Christian and Twila Melching Van Ooy. She briefly worked for Gibson Guitar and then as a school bus driver for Kalamazoo Public Schools for 33 years. She was a loving mother and grandmother and her family was her life. She loved to go mushroom hunting in the woods, was an avid Detroit Lions and stock car racing fan and enjoyed flowers and plants. She was married to Jack R. Bogema Sr. on January 25, 1946; he preceded her in death on November 12, 2010. Dolly is survived by four children, Jack R. Judy Bogema Jr., Barbara Neff, Deborah Terry Brost and Dawn James Hill; 16 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Robert Gwen Bogema; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Robert Neff; three sisters, Gwyneth Fred Cook, Loretta McDonald and Barbara Van Ooy. Friends may visit with the family from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. on Sunday, May 3, 2015 at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th St., Kalamazoo, MI 49009. The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, May 4, 2015 at the funeral home. Pastor Linda Stoddard will officiate with interment in Genesee Prairie Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan, American Heart Association or American Breast Cancer Foundation.
