CAZERS, Zenta J.
Portage Zenta J. Cazers, age 97, died on Monday, December 31, 2007 following an illness. She was born in Latvia, near the city of Jekabpils and graduated from the University of Latvia, Dentistry Division, in Riga, earning a DDS degree. Zenta practiced dentistry in Riga until she and her family were forced to flee to Germany during World War II. After five years in the displaced persons camps, the family immigrated to South Dakota. They settled in Kalamazoo in 1951. Zenta obtained a Medical Technology degree from Western Michigan University and worked in Bronson Methodist Hospital Laboratory until her retirement in 1975.
Zenta was an avid follower of politics-both in the United States and Latvia. She enjoyed reading, gardening and sewing. She was a member of the Latvian Sorority Imeria and the Latvian Evangelical Lutheran United Church of Kalamazoo.
Surviving are her daughter, Dr. Jana Cazers; her son, Alexander Cazers and his wife, Mary Lou; and four grandchildren, Anwar and Robert Khan and Paul and Mara Cazers. Zenta was preceded in death by her husband, Robert and their infant son, Emils.
A memorial service for Zenta will be announced at a future date.
Memorials may be given to the Latvian Evangelical Lutheran United Church of Kalamazoo.
