Of Climax, Michigan Woody passed away Tuesday morning, March 25, 2008 at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo. He was born on December 16, 1913 in Freeport, the younger of two children to Jessiah and Elizabeth Whiley Knowles. Woody was employed by Consumers Power for 43 years, until his retirement in 1973. He loved to play cards and enjoyed watching baseball. On July 2, 1936, he was united in marriage to Helen Thaler in Angola, IN, who preceded him in death on October 20, 1998. Also preceding him in death were his parents; 1 brother, Orno Knowles, and 1 grandson, Scott Knowles. Surviving are his 4 children, Larry Judy Knowles of East Leroy, Don Pat Knowles of Battle Creek, Ardith Norman Schafer of Tekonsha, and Roger Leila Knowles of Climax; 13 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; close nephew, Randy Knowles; and special friend, Helen Hart. Funeral services for Woody will be at 11:00 AM on Friday at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Climax Chapel, 205 E. Maple Street, with Pastor James Roberts officiating. Interment will follow in Prairie Home Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM on Thursday at the funeral home. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be directed to Climax-Scotts Athletic Boosters or Alzheimer's Association.
