Formerly of Holland, Michigan Died Monday afternoon January 19, 2009. Willis was born on September 13, 1928 in Holland, Michigan a son of Benjamin and Effie Tiesinga Nash. Years ago, he served honorably aboard the Naval destroyer USS Gainard DD-706. He had been a Kalamazoo area resident for over 55 years and was employed with the Kalamazoo Public Schools for 30 years before retiring. Following retirement, he taught and mentored at the Kalamazoo Area Math and Science Center. He also enjoyed antique car touring, traveling, gardening, and Navy reunions. He was member of the Trinity Reformed Church where he served as a Deacon and Consistory member. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Betty Nash. On June 8, 1951, he was united in marriage to Dorothy E. Moomey Nash who survives. Also surviving, a son, Michael Pamela Nash of Vicksburg; a daughter, Diane Steven Candy of El Sobrante, CA; 2 granddaughters, Allison and Stephanie both of El Sobrante, CA; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; special friends, Bob Betty Kuiper of Portage; and his best dog companion, Jack. Services will be held 11 o'clock Saturday at the Trinity Reformed Church, 326 W. Cork Street. Friends may meet the family one hour prior to the service at the church. Private interment will be in Mt. Ever-Rest Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Life Enrichment Program at Heritage Community of Kalamazoo or Rose Arbor Hospice Program.
