SCHALLHORN, William Jr. "Bill"
of Delton, Michigan Passed away March 8, 2012 in Galesburg. Bill was born September 2, 1930 in Kalamazoo to the late William and Lutha Glidden Schallhorn, Sr. Bill was united in marriage to Dorothy L. "Dottie" Smith on June 19, 1976, who survives. Bill served in the U.S. Army from February of 1951 until honorably discharged in November of 1952. He retired from the Hydreco Division of New York Air Brake where he worked for over 30 years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and made many trips to Canada with his friends and sons for the fishing. Bill loved his family and the family get-togethers. He also belonged and remained active in the IAM & AW for over 50 years. Surviving Bill are his wife, Dottie; children, Bill Schallhorn of Paw Paw, Denise Bill Anderson of Kalamazoo, Phil Donna Schallhorn of Plainwell, Debra Jim Edgerton of Richland, Brenda Al Ramirez of Yuma, AZ and Kathy Ruley of Delton; 13 grandchildren; 2 great grandsons; sister, Arlene Schallhorn; Marilyn Wall, the mother of Bill, Denise and Phil; and several nieces and nephews. Also preceding Bill in death were brothers, David and Dale Schallhorn; and sister, Mary Lou Hughson. Family will greet friends on Monday from 2-4 and 6-8pm at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St., where a memorial service will take place on Tuesday at 11:30 am. The committal service will be Tuesday, 10:00am at Ft. Custer National Cemetery, Augusta, MI with military honors being rendered. Those wishing to attend the committal service should arrive at the Cortege area of Ft. Custer Cemetery, between 9:45 - 10:00 am. Memorials may be directed to The Wounded Warriors Project or to the SPCA of Michigan.
