William Peter Roseboom, Sr., age 90, passed away December 20, 2017 in Lawton, MI. Bill was born September 25, 1927 in Kalamazoo, MI, the son of Gerard and Jessie (VanderHeide) Roseboom. During World War II, he served active duty in the U.S. Navy from 1945-46. On March 5, 1947, he was united in marriage to Josie Mae "Dottie" (Barnes) Roseboom. They resided in Kalamazoo until 1958, relocated to Lawton where he owned and operated Bill's Exel Gas & Grocery and later employed with Boylan Buick. In 1972, they moved to California where he was a realtor and retired as a deputy sheriff for over 20 years with Rancho Mission Viejo, CA. In 2001, they returned to live in Portage, MI. Bill enjoyed woodworking, photography, bowling, casinos, listening to Lawrence Welk and country music. He also enjoyed going to garage sales, and was known as the "Gadget Guy" with his collection of all electronic components and making them work again. The most important part of his life was spending time with his family. Surviving are his three children, Jeffrey (Mary) Roseboom of Paw Paw, Susan Roseboom (Allan Reynolds) of Oshtemo and Billy (Pam) Roseboom of California; grandchildren, Jeremy (Stephanie) Roseboom, Dr. Bridget Pine, Denise (Tyler) Purdy, Tina (Greg) Kapus, Ashley and Natasha Roseboom and Elizabeth (Nate) Neely; great-grandchildren, Emma, Paige, Layla, Ethan, Eli, Dominic, Josie, Zoe, Jacob, Haley, Ryker and Maddox; siblings, Agnes Caswell, Alberta Thatcher, nieces and nephews. His wife Dottie preceded him in death on December 16, 2012. Bill was also preceded in death by his parents and siblings Catherine Blowers, Henrietta Austin and Jessie Mae Matheson; and a grandson-in-law Scott Pine. In accordance with Bill's wishes cremation has taken place. A memorial service to celebrate the lives of Bill and Dottie will be held at 1:00PM Wednesday, December 27th at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th Street. Burial for Bill and Dottie will be held at a later date in Ft. Custer National Cemetery. Memorials in Bill's memory may be directed to Great Lakes Caring Hospice.
