Formerly of Grosse Pointe, MI William Thomas Peters, age 90, died early on Sunday Morning, October 7, 2012, in Kalamazoo, MI. He was born August 29, 1922 in Lyons, NY, a son of William and Alice Harrigan Peters. William served in the US Army during WW II. He was a graduate of Syracuse University and retired as the Director of Libraries for Grosse Pointe. William was a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Harper Woods and later a member of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church in Portage. He was also a member of the American Librarian Association, the ACLU and Rotary International. In his free time William was an avid golfer, enjoyed woodworking, playing dominoes and watching sporting events. On April 2, 1945, William was united in marriage with the former Frances Catherine Sterk, who preceded him in death on April 28, 2006. William was also preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, James and Edward Peters. William is survived by: a son, Stephen Kathryn Peters, Sr., of Portage; three grandchildren, John Aimee Peters of Portage, Stephen Peters, Jr., of Kalamazoo and Christina Cameron Cassell of Nashville, TN; a sister-in-law, Florence "Timmy" Luke of Kalamazoo; and many nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 Thursday morning at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 1150 W. Centre Ave., with Fr. Robert F. Creagan, Presider. Visitation will be held from 5 - 8pm on Wednesday at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre Ave., with a scripture service beginning at 7pm. Graveside services will held 1:00 Friday afternoon in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, 25800 W. 10 Mile Rd., Southfield, MI.
