William John "Bill" Nederhoed

William John “Bill” Nederhoed of Mattawan, Michigan, passed away January 7, 2024, at the age of 81. Bill was born August 25, 1942, to John and Wilma (Kuiper) Nederhoed. Bill married Sandra Huis on January 6, 1961, and recently celebrated 63 years of marriage.

Bill graduated from Portage Central High School in 1960. He had many careers throughout his life including a machinist, electrical contractor, master electrician, nuclear welder, and electrical inspector. He retired from IBEW Local 131. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, and fishing. Bill was a competitive shooter with muzzle-loading rifles and cowboy action shooting. His passion was gunsmithing and reading. Bill attended First Reformed Church of Portage.

Bill is survived by his wife; children, Richard (Tami) Nederhoed and Beverly Nederhoed-Paperiz; grandchildren, Jessica Maupin, Garret Nederhoed, Patrick Quarry, Matthew Knaggs, and Peter Nederhoed; and seven (7) great-grandchildren. Bill was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Greg Paperiz; and brother-in-law, John Volenski. 

Visitation and funeral services will be held on Friday, January 12, 2024, at Langeland Family Funeral Homes Burial and Cremation Services, 411 E Centre Ave, Portage, Michigan 49002. Visitation will begin at 12:00 p.m., with a funeral service to follow at 1:00 p.m. Interment will take place about 2:30 p.m. at Portage Central Cemetery, 7737 S Westnedge Ave, Portage, Michigan 49002.
