McQUEEN, William Dale
Of Mattawan, Michigan Dale passed away early Thursday morning, September 24, 2009 at his home. He was born October 19, 1932 in Winchester, KY, one of nine children to Arley and Leonna Hewitt McQueen. Growing up in Elwood, Indiana, Dale graduated from Wendell L. Wilkie High School in Elwood. He was a veteran of the Untied States Navy Construction Battalion serving during the Korean Conflict. On July 3, 1956, Dale was united in marriage to Nila J. Phillips. He was employed by General Motors Corp. in Kalamazoo for 33 years until his retirement in 1997. Dale enjoyed fishing and golfing in his spare time. Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Nila McQueen; 3 grandchildren, Sarah, Andrew, and Elizabeth McQueen; daughter-in-law, Mary McQueen; 3 sisters, Vivian Bill DeVaney, Joyce McQueen, and Virginia Gary Fouts; 2 brothers, Paul Carol McQueen and Philip Mary McQueen; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death are his son, Anthony McQueen; his parents; 1 sister, Rachel Jarvis, 2 brothers, Michael John and Arley Jr. McQueen; and several aunts and uncles. Funeral services for Dale will be at 2:00 PM on Tuesday at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th Street, with Chaplain Barbara L. VanEck officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM on Monday at the funeral home. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be directed to West Michigan Cancer Center or Borgess Visiting Nurse and Hospice.
