Formerly of Portage, Michigan Bill passed away Monday morning, April 21, 2008, with his wife and parents by his side. He was born November 29, 1972, in Kalamazoo, the son of William C. and Antoinette Buchino Ehlert. Bill was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. A 1991 graduate of Portage Central High School, Bill earned an A.A.S. degree in Law Enforcement from Kalamazoo Valley Community College and went on to earn a B.S. degree in Criminal Justice from Western Michigan University. On June 14, 2003, he was united in marriage with Alycia Iwan of St. Joseph. In 2003, they moved to McAllen, TX, later moving to Leesburg, GA, in 2005, where Bill was employed as a police officer for the Dougherty County Police Department. He was an avid sports fan and loved the Detroit Red Wings. Surviving are his wife, Alycia Ehlert; his parents, William and Antoinette Ehlert of Portage; one brother, Joseph Tammy Ehlert of Sturgis; 2 nephews and 1 niece, Jacob and Katie Ehlert and Michael Iwan; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and in-laws. Preceding him in death were his grandparents, Joseph and Marie Ehlert, and James and Theresa Buchino; and step-grandmother, Irene Quinn Ehlert. Bill will be dearly missed by his sweetheart, his parents, his brother, his family, and his many friends. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Friday at St. Martin Catholic Church, 5845 E. W Avenue, Vicksburg, with Father James Vinh Le celebrant. Friends may visit with the family from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday with a rosary at 7:30 p.m. at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre Avenue. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be directed to the American Brain Tumor Association or the American Cancer Society.
