Kalamazoo, Michigan formerly of Concord, Lake County, Ohio and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania Departed this life on January 17, 2011 at Rose Arbor Hospice in Kalamazoo, Michigan, with his loving daughters at his side. Bill was born on March 26, 1925 in Pittsburgh, PA. On September 6, 1947, he married his high school sweetheart Helen Kerr. They later moved to Concord, OH. Bill retired with more than 30 years of service in the lubrication industry with the Lubrizol Corporation, headquartered in Cleveland, OH, as the Director of Marketing. Prior to his employment with Lubrizol, he was an industrial salesman with the Sun Oil Company. Bill served in World War II as a pilot in the 9th U.S. Army Air Corps, dropping paratroopers during the invasion of Normandy through Operation Market Garden, when he was shot down over Arnheim, Holland. He served with other brave American pilots in the Normandy, North France, Rhineland, and Ardennes battles and campaigns. His military decorations include the European-African-Middle Eastern Medal with four Bronze Stars, an Air Medal and a Purple Heart. He finished his education after the war, graduating with honors from the University of Pittsburgh in 1948. He is a past President of the Cleveland Petroleum Club. Bill traveled the world extensively, was an avid sailor, a past Commodore of the Grand River Yacht Club in northeast Ohio and a member of various benevolent organizations. His wife of 60 years, Helen Kerr Borneman, and his brother Donald Borneman Betty preceded him in death. He is survived by his daughters Patricia Brownlee Jim of Fort Denaud, FL and Diane Borneman Bryan Safranski of Plainwell, MI, and grandsons Justin Brownlee Denille and Ryan Brownlee of Orlando, FL. He is also survived by his beloved sister Arlene Borneman Kossler of La Habra, CA and several nieces and nephews. Services will be private and limited to immediate family with internment to follow at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, DC. Please see
