Formerly of Kalamazoo Wes died Sunday, May 22, 2011, in St Petersburg, FL. He was born May 22, 1934, in Kalamazoo, MI, a son of Judson R. and Madelen Knapper. Wes was an owner of Lew Hubbard?s Clothing Store for many years. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Richland, the Kalamazoo Country Club and the Gull Lake Country Club. After retiring, Wes spent his summers on the Boardman River in Traverse City and his winters in St. Petersburg, FL. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Janee L. Pieters Knapper on September 6, 1983. Wes was also preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Joyce Kneen and a brother, Kenny Knapper. On July 1, 2003, Wes was united in marriage to the former Carol Stanley, who survives. Also surviving are: three children and their families, Todd & Debby Knapper and their daughter, Shawnee, of Minneapolis, MN, Eric & Dianne Knapper and their sons, Ryan and Nick, of Richland, and Julie & Joe Moses and their daughter, Katie, of Traverse City; his brother, Jud Knapper of Kalamazoo; Carol?s five children, twelve grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be held 11:30 Friday morning at the First Presbyterian Church of Richland, 8047 Church St. Visitation will be 5-8pm Thursday today at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St. Memorials should be directed to the Glen C. Smith Caddy Scholarship Fund, c/o the Kalamazoo Community Foundation, 151 S. Rose St, Suite 332, Kalamazoo, MI 49007.
