Kalamazoo, MI Died Thursday morning July 15, 2010. Wesley was born January 18, 1929 in Kalamazoo, Michigan a son of Johan and Wilhelmina Groothuis Bouwhuis. He had been a lifelong Kalamazoo area resident and was employed with Michigan Bell for over 40 years before retiring. Wesley was also a member of Bethany Reformed Church and the Telephone Pioneers. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Harley Bouwhuis; and 2 sisters, Gerda Boyd and Ardith VanDam. On February 6, 1956, he was united in marriage to Lyle Marie Arends Bouwhuis who survives. Also surviving, 4 children, Candice James Shearer of Schoolcraft, Cindy Batieste and Terry Bouwhuis both of Kalamazoo, and Edward Bouwhuis of Sunnyvale, CA; 4 grandchildren, David Jeanna Paffhousen, and Rachel, Rebecca, and Jessica Shearer; 3 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Services will be held 1 o'clock Monday from the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St. Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8pm Sunday. Interment will be in Mt. Ever-Rest Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Shepherd's Center or Bethany Reformed Church Memorial Fund. www.langelands.com . 343-1508.
