Of Kalamazoo Passed away on Sunday, December 30, 2012 at Bronson Methodist Hospital. Age 78. Dave was born in Davenport, Iowa on November 5, 1934, the son of the late Henry Francis and Margaret Emma Lippens Rome. He received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Geology and Chemistry from Augustana College and Law Degree from the University of Iowa Law School. He served with the Illinois National Guard. He began his career as a chemist for John Deere while pursuing his law degree. He then worked as a corporate attorney for several companies including John Deere and Interbake Foods, Inc. He was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church and the American Bar Association. Dave was devoted to his family and enjoyed history, politics, collecting antiques and traveling. Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Judith A. Hobson Rome; his three children, Stephen C. Barbara Lait Rome of Kalamazoo, Paul W. Rome of New Mexico and Cynthia D. Daniel Troyer of Kalamazoo; four grandchildren, Madelyn and Gregory Rome and Addison and Emma Troyer. Friends may visit with the family from 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 3, 2013 at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre Ave. Private interment will take place in Hope Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Kalamazoo Humane Society, 4239 S. Westnedge Ave., Kalamazoo, MI 49008 or Texas Twp. Firefighters Association, 7110 West Q Avenue, Kalamazoo, MI 49009.
