SKIDMORE, Walter Ralph
Of Climax Walter R. Skidmore of Climax, passed away Friday, July 8, 2011. Walter was born in Climax Township on August 5, 1919, a son of Raymond and Leona Cooley Skidmore. He had been a resident of this area all of his life and graduated from Scotts High School. He served in the United States Army during WW II from 1944 to 1946. He worked for Rheem Manufacturing for 27 years and retired from Kalamazoo Manufacturing where he worked for 10 years. Walter was a life member of the Scotts Knights of Pythias, Lodge # 103, and enjoyed fishing, hunting and his lodge. In 1941, he was united in marriage to Harriett Ramsdell, who passed away on July 5, 1958. He was also preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers, Baby Harold Skidmore, Mahlon Skidmore and Lucius Skidmore; a sister, Pauline Stephenson Metty. On July 23, 1966, he married Wretha Gorham, who survives. Also surviving are his sons, Richard MaryAnn Skidmore of Scotts, Roger Sue Skidmore of Climax and Robert Skidmore of Scotts; a brother, Douglas Becky Skidmore; step-children, Larry Edna Gandy and Robert Debby Gandy; grandchildren, Jane David Foster, Carolyn Jon Lowry, Ellen Edward Allotta, Jeanie George Everest, Sharon Randy Sult and Gary Ginger Skidmore; step-grandchildren, Bryan Kristen Gandy, Erin Talamantez, Larry, Keven and Mindy Gandy; 12 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 12, at 1:00 PM in the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Climax Chapel, 205 E. Maple, with Pastor Glenn Litchfield officiating. Interment will follow in Gilson Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday beginning at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Brookdale Senior Living of Battle Creek or the Climax United Methodist Church Roof Fund.
