VAN SICKLE, Mr. Walter K.
Kalamazoo, MI Died Monday morning May 17, 2010. Walter was born on April 18, 1924 in Lansing Michigan, the son of Edwin and Maude Hale Van Sickle. He grew up in the Charlotte, Lansing area, graduating from Lansing Sexton High School. During WWII, he served as a 2nd Lieutenant with the US Army Medical Core. He has been a Kalamazoo resident since the 1980's and was employed with Tridon Corp. out of Nashville, Tenn. before retiring. Walter was also an active member of the Elks Lodge #50. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Teri in 1977; a sister, Ethel; and 5 brothers, Roy, Oliver, Fred, Edwin and Rulison. He was united in marriage on August 13, 1945 to Gloria J. TrewVan Sickle who survives. Also surviving, 2 daughters, Vicki William Bilyk of Gobles, Mi. and Peggy Jerry PattenVan Sickle of White Bear Lake, MN; 3 grandchildren, Michael KariBilyk, Matthew Bilyk, and ChristopherChelsea VandenBerg Bilyk; a great grandson, Logan Bilyk and many nieces and nephews. Walter was an avid golfer winning many amateur golf titles and club championships in his career. They spanned Michigan from Saginaw to Kalamazoo as well as many other states. He won several State Amateur Seniors titles and qualified for and played in the US Seniors Amateur and the Buick Open. As he aged his skill persisted and he stopped counting the number of times he shot below his age and focused on just playing and perfecting his game. He was a regular at the Prairies golf club and a multiple past club champion. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 2-4p and 6-8p and services will be Friday at 11 o'clock at the Langeland Family Funeral Home, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th Street. Graveside service will be held at 1pm on Saturday at Roselawn Cemetery, Saginaw, Mich. Memorials may be directed to the Van Sickle Senior Center of Charlotte, Michigan or the Mich. Diabetes Association.
