WESTRA, Wallace K. "Wally"
Of Kalamazoo, Michigan Went to be with his Lord on Thursday March, 12, 2009 at Kairos Dwelling. Wally was born May 13, 1942 in Kalamazoo, MI, the son of Orin and Marie Groenheide Westra and was a lifelong resident of Kalamazoo. He served in the Army National Guard from 1963-69. Prior to his retirement, he was employed for 38 years as a supervisor for the Kalamazoo Postal Service. He was an active member of the Milwood Christian Reformed Church where he served in many capacities including several terms on the church Council. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. The joy of his life was spending time with his grandchildren. On February 26, 1966, Wally was married to Betty Morren, who survives. Also surviving are 3 children, Mark RachelWestra of Grandville, Susan Chris Pettit of Portage and Jeff Westra of Portage; 5 grandchildren, Sam and Eli Westra, Ty, Hailey and Luke Pettit; brothers and sisters, Phyllis Ken Young and Marge Jim VanderSlik, all of California and Velma Jim Otten of Caledonia; in-laws, Jay Kathleen Morren, Arnie Cindy Morren, Cal Thelma Kunnen and Jim Marian Langeland; several nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 11:00 am on Monday at the Milwood Christian Reformed Church, 3306 Lovers Lane, with the Rev. Loren Kotman officiating. A luncheon will follow services at the church with private family committal services at Ft. Custer National Cemetery. Friends may meet the family on Sunday from 2-4 & 6-8 pm at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th St. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions in Wally's memory may be made to the Kalamazoo Christian School Association, the Grandville Christian School Association or Kairos Dwelling.
