W. Nadine Vanderberg
Age 65
of Portage, Michigan Passed away Wednesday, July 16, 2008 at home after a long battle with brain cancer. Nadine was born on July 18, 1942 in Constantine, Michigan. She attended Western Michigan University and was an elementary school teacher for many years. Nadine also worked for Pfizer before her retirement in 2005. Nadine enjoyed planting and tending her gardens and caring for animals. She was an active member of the Kalamazoo County and Michigan Democratic Party, the Portage Senior Center and the National Historic Trust. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ogle and Wanda Naylor of Constantine, and her sister-in-law, Marcia Ledbetter of Mattawan. Her family members include her husband of 42 years, Jon, her son Robert Vanderberg of Kalamazoo, and her daughter Laura Vanderberg, married to Andrew Fiordalis, both of Arlington, Massachusetts. In addition, Nadine has two siblings, Phil Naylor of Mattawan and Natalie Gose, wife of Greg, both of Brentwood, Tennessee. Her extended family includes her father- and mother-in-law, Olin and Mildred Vanderberg of Portage. She has numerous aunts and uncles and nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Center Street from 4-7 pm on Sunday, July 20. Private graveside services will be held in White Pigeon Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at the Portage Senior Center, 320 Library Lane at 4 p.m. on Monday, July 21. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in honor of Nadine to the Mayo Clinic of Rochester, Minnesota, Loaves and Fishes of Kalamazoo, the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, or the Kalamazoo County Democratic Party.
