VERHAAGEN, Virginia E. Shattuck of Kalamazoo, Michigan Went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at Rose Arbor Hospice. She was born March 24, 1920 in Portage, MI to Leo and Jenny Shattuck. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dick Verhaagen and a daughter, Marie del Gaudio George. She leaves behind three children, Suzanne Steve Lehenbauer of TX., Don Jen Verhaagen of Golden, CO and Rich Martine Verhaagen of Iowa; a son-in-law, George del Gaudio; 6 grandchildren, Susan Bruce Miller, Renee Ross Wehner, Rick Stacy Verhaagen, Rob Ilyn Verhaagen, Matt Conyetta Lehenbauer and Mark Leigh Lehenbauer;; 14 great grandchildren and another little blessing due in November, sisters, Dorothy Gren and Jane Bill Waldech; brothers, Don Donna Shattuck, Raymond Joyce Shattuck and Rich Dorothy Shattuck; many loving nieces and nephews. She also leaves her very special friends, Linda Mick Terberg, Linda, Kinzie and John, and Cecil Stewart. Their care and love for her over the past 5-8 years will always be remembered. Virginia was a joy to all who knew and loved her. A beautiful, precious, caring soul, she had such a wonderful wit and sense of humor up until her last days at Rose Arbor. She mentioned to her son-in-law, Steve, "Why don't you put a For Sale sign on me?' just weeks before she died. She, of course, thought it was too funny. One of the nurses at Rose Arbor commented, that if they were having a bad day, they would go to Virginia's room and she would give them a big smile and embrace them and tell them how much she loved each one of them. Another nurse commented on how it was like putting a band aide on them. The family will greet friends and family at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St., beginning at 10:00 AM Saturday, followed by a service at 12:00 Noon, with Pastor Tim Crandall officiating. Interment will take place in Riverside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may given to the Gideon's or Rose Arbor Hospice Facility.
