SIMPSON, Virginia K. Of Cocoa, Florida
Formerly of Kalamazoo, Michigan Passed away January 19th, 2009 at the age of 83. She was born June 26, 1925 in Galesburg, IL, spent her youth in Chicago and Galva, IL, and graduated from Kewanee High School in 1943. She attended George Washington University in Washington D.C. and then worked in Chicago, where she met and married her husband of 35 years James W. Simpson in 1948. They moved to Marion, IN following their marriage, then to Kalamazoo in 1950, where they lived and raised their family. Mrs. Simpson moved to Florida during the incapacitating illness of her husband and his subsequent death in1983 and was a resident of Florida for over 27 years. She is survived by three children, Katherine J. Starrett Stuart of Trussville, AL, James W. Simpson, Jr. Karen of Cocoa, FL, and Nancy A. Smith John of Champaign, IL; a brother, Wayne O. Craig Judi of Youngstown, NY; seven grandchildren, Kiersten M. Fish, Ryan R. Fish, James W. Simpson III, John L. Simpson, III, Karen E. Smith, Sarah C. Smith, and Daniel J. Smith; one great grandchild, Isaac R. Hudson-Fish, and several nieces and nephews. While living in Kalamazoo, Mrs. Simpson worked as a copywriter for WKZO and WKMI, and was the secretary for the Department of Medieval Studies at Western Michigan University. During her lifetime Mrs. Simpson enjoyed traveling - particularly cruising, painting with watercolors and china painting, reading, writing, listening to music and watching current events. She especially enjoyed the company of her precious Teacup Poodle "Sweetie". She was always very proud of her children and grandchildren and loved them very much. She will be missed. A committal service and burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, Jan 26th at Fort Custer National Cemetery, 15501 Dickman Road, Augusta, with Rev. Marty Culver of Milwood United Methodist Church officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice in Mrs. Simpson's memory.
