Vincent P. Marshall

Vincent De Paul Marshall, an industrial microbiologist and researcher, age 81 of Kalamazoo, died on February 15, 2025. He was born on April 5, 1943, in Washington D.C, the son of Vincent P. and Mary (Bach) Marshall.

Following his high school graduation, Vince served in the U.S. National Guard from 1960-1965.

Vince received his bachelor’s degree from Northeastern State College in Oklahoma. He received his master’s degree in health science from the University of Oklahoma along with his PhD. He was a pre and post-doctoral fellow at the National Institute of Health. Vince began his work as a research scientist at the Upjohn Company in 1973. He served as a senior research scientist until his retirement. He was a published scholar in numerous journals. Vince enjoyed his work as a research microbiologist at Upjohn/Pharmacia/Pfizer. In retirement, he continued companionship with several co-workers.

On November 15, 1986, Vince married Sylvia Kieffer. They shared 38 years of marriage. They were members of Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Vince was an avid bike rider on the Kal-Haven Trail. His riding included many 70 mile roundtrip rides. Adapting to age, the length of the rides decreased but he continued to ride the trail on a daily basis and enjoyed being outdoors. Sylvia and Vince wintered in Oceanside, California, where he enjoyed the San Diego Safari Park.

One of Vince’s greatest blessings was his grandson, Eli. Watching his grow and explore the world brought so much joy to Vince’s life.

His family includes his wife, Sylvia Marshall; his children, Vincent Marshall and Amy (Kevin) Marshall-Pentz; his grandson, Eli Michael Pentz; his brother, Bill Marshall and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Tom Marshall and sister, Nancy Simpson.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 20, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 3000 W. Main St, Kalamazoo, MI 49006, Burial will be held at Grand Prairie Cemetery. Donations in memory of Vince may be made to Immanuel Lutheran.
